The Secretary of Infrastructure and Mobility, Isidre Gavín, today present at the last meeting of 2018 of the Strategic Table at the Airport of Andorra – La Seu has announced the good results of the installation, which closed this November with 30% more operations than last year. Thus, if in November last year there were 3,380 operations in November this year there has been 4,411, this means 30% more.
The board fo the Strategic Table has also agreed to demand that the State accelerate the procedures for the installation of the IRF system, which allows aircraft to operate with a GPS system and, therefore, land under conditions of less visibility. Aeroports de Catalunya initiated the procedures to obtain this system two and a half years ago and is still awaiting the State’s approval. « Having the GPS would allow to operate with more regular forecasts in both summer and winter season, » said the Secretary of Infrastructures and Mobility.
The other requirement of the Table to the State is to allow operations of aircraft that arrive outside the Schengen area. « The works to have the airport ready for the Non-Schengen flights are done since 2016, and we are waiting for this to be resolved to the State, » explained Gavín. « We have to take advantage of the potential of the airport and from the Generalitat, what we do is work intensely to have the best commercial airport, » he said.
